I would like to take a few minutes and let you know about an important Parks Sales Tax election that will be taking place on Tuesday, Aug. 2. The Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation Board will be asking voters to approve the continuation of the current ¼ cent parks sales tax which helps fund capital projects in our parks. The current ¼ cent parks sales tax expires in April 2018. Sporting Lee's Summit and our participants have benefited significantly from previous parks sales taxes which were used to construct Legacy Park and all of the game fields and facilities we currently use.
The Parks Board has worked extensively with the community and Sporting Lee's Summit to develop 8 priorities and 33 goals to address the parks and recreational needs of our community. To learn more about the parks sales tax you can click on the link below or you can call Joe Snook, Assistant Administrator of Parks & Recreation, or Tom Lovell, Administrator of Parks & Recreation, at (816) 969-1500.
We have included the ballot language for your reference.
Shall the City of Lee’s Summit, Missouri continue a sales tax of one-quarter (1/4) of one percent (1%) for the purpose of providing funding for local parks for the City for a period of 15 years beginning on April 1, 2018?
The Sporting Lee's Summit Board would like to encourage you to show your support on Issue #2 on Aug. 2.
