Soccer is a great way to introduce children to sports through team play and to exercise. The Sporting Lee’s Summit recreational division emphasizes teaching the fundamentals of soccer, ensures each child plays at least one half of each game. This division is designed to develop and challenge players, but most of all, allow them to have fun.
Toward its goal of providing a positive soccer atmosphere for all soccer athletes, SLS has a soccer program for young athletes who are cognitively or physically challenged. SLS will do their best to accommodate a variety of athletes with different ability levels.
The youth recreational league starts with players age 4 in our U5 (Under 5) division and goes up to High School in our Coed U18 division. Sporting LS also offers adult recreational soccer.
A photocopy of the player’s birth certificate is required. The age requirement is evaluated only once a year, on July 31st. For the Fall season the age requirement must be met on July 31 of the same year. For the spring season the age requirement must be met on July 31 of the previous year.
The adult recreation league has two age groups: Over 17 and Over 35.
Sporting Lee’s Summit strives to balance teams. Teams may stay together from season to season, using a draft for new players to create new teams or balance existing teams. If desired, parents may request their child be re-drafted onto a different team. New players are always welcome and will be placed on teams where needed. Generally, requests to play for a specific coach or with a specific player cannot always be honored.
Sporting Lee’s Summit youth games are generally played on Saturdays between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. The first game is usually in the first weekend in March for the spring season and the last weekend in August will begin our fall season. We make every effort to play seven regular season games and one post season tournament for our recreational division with the exception of the U5-U6 and Adult divisions. Mother Nature does not always cooperate with our schedule and make up games are generally held on Sundays, between 9am and 7pm. The recreational division does not play on Easter weekend.
Adult league games are played on Sunday afternoons/evenings at Legacy Park.
All games are played at 1501 and 1601 NE Blackwell Road located in the beautiful Legacy Park. The park is located in Lee’s Summit located at the intersection of Colbern and Blackwell roads.
For the youth recreational soccer divisions, Sporting Lee’s Summit provides a team shirt that must be the outermost articles of clothing worn while on the playing field. Shin guards are required to participate in Sporting LS games and practices. Soccer cleats are optional, but Sporting LS does not allow baseball cleats (cleat on the toe of the sole) or football (rectangular cleats on the outmost part of the sole). Black shorts are the player’s choice, but not required. Players need their own soccer ball for practice:
Coaches schedule youth practices at various schools, parks, private property and churches. Generally, practices will be twice a week with a game to be played on the following weekend.
